Steal Or Die How to Escape: Plan the Return Trip
How to Escape
- Use this round: Follow the live exit countdown rather than memorizing a timer from another match.
- Protect the haul: Loot counts once you walk out with it; death inside loses what you were carrying.
Choose a return route and stop searching before the final pickup endangers the haul.
Plan backward from the working exit
In Steal Or Die, escaping is the step that turns a collection of items into a completed haul. Find the exit direction early and keep the live countdown in mind while moving away from it. A route is useful when you can follow it under pressure, including its turns and the doorway you need to reach.
Avoid choosing an ordinary door solely because it looks like a sensible way out. Keep your return tied to the actual exit cues in the match. The Office guide explains why recognizing the working exit matters in a building full of doors.
Leave room for the trip you still owe
Rarer loot slows you down. A pickup made beside an exit and the same pickup made deep in an unfamiliar section are different decisions, even if the displayed value is attractive in both places. Consider the distance, the turns and the monster’s position before adding that burden.
When the exit becomes available, the return route deserves priority over a fresh search. If you are already carrying valuables, opening another unknown room puts the existing haul at risk for a possible addition. Taking the known route is a sensible choice even when another player keeps looting.
Separate a blocked route from a failed plan
If the entity is controlling your immediate approach, first seek space or cover that lets you change direction deliberately. Closets and barricaded doors may create time, while an accessible vent gives another option; none should make you forget the final destination. Do not disappear into a corner with no idea how you will leave it.
A difficult extraction also gives the next run a clear lesson. If you arrived slowly, reduce the carrying burden. If you got lost, learn a shorter section of the Facility route. If the entity followed every turn, work on sound detection. Fix the decision that prevented the return rather than assume every loss needs a bigger haul.
