Steal Or Die Malfunction: The Event and Input Actions

Malfunction

  • Official name: Malfunction appears in the game’s rare-event list.
  • Avoid a false diagnosis: The name alone does not identify a broken control, an item effect or a blackout.

Keep the event name, an intended action and the observed symptom as different questions.

Identify the event without inventing its cause

Malfunction is a named rare event in Steal Or Die. Keep that identity separate from an assumption that a device, button or item has stopped working. A warning and an input symptom can happen near each other without proving the same cause.

First preserve the useful destination in the current run. If you were already carrying loot toward the exit, do not replace the return with several unrelated input changes. Keep the intended movement or interaction clear enough that you can tell what actually failed.

Separate a slow return from an absent action

The game’s normal carrying rule already explains why valuable loot can make movement slower. That is different from an action that never occurs when you intend it. Likewise, Full Blackout is a separately named visibility event; do not automatically assign its darkness effect to Malfunction.

Use the controls guide when the action itself is the problem, and carry weight when the difficulty follows a heavier load. The hiding guide is the useful continuation when an entity interrupts the route. Choosing the matching correction keeps an event name from becoming an explanation for every uncomfortable moment.
